Repurposed (Bright Year: Day 16)
Five years ago for my birthday (or was it Father’s Day?) my wife got me a bench made out of a Chevrolet tailgate. We put it on our front porch. I loved the look, but hated sitting on the thing, hard as it was and prone to deal out splinters. It sat there as a manly decoration.
We lugged it out to our acreage, whereupon Christina decided to convert it into the cornerstone of a new rabbit pen.
Admittedly, I was a little miffed at first. How dare my heroic icon be repurposed as a post for raising rodents? Then I noticed how much use it was getting. My wife would sit there for hours, serene, hovering over the little puffs of fur. Our daughter would camp out on it, holding baby bunnies, laughing and laughing.
Risen Lord, hear my prayer: some things need to reborn twice.
